چکیده

Using multiple inertial sensors for energy expenditure estimation provides a useful tool for the assessment of daily life activities. Due to the high variety of new upcoming sensor types and recommendations for sensor placement to assess physiological human body function, an adaptable inertial sensor fusion-based approach is mandatory. In this paper, two inertial body sensors, consisting of a triaxial accelerometer and a triaxial gyroscope, were placed on hip and ankle. Ten subjects performed two trials of running on a treadmill under three speed levels ([3.2, 4.8, 6.4] km/h). Each sensor source was separately subjected to preprocessing, feature extraction and regression. In the final step, decision level fusion was performed by averaging the predicted results. A mean absolute error of 0.50 MET was achieved against indirect calorimetry. The system allows an easy integration of new sensors without retraining the complete system. This is an advantage over commonly used feature level fusion approaches. Keywords— Energy expenditure, inertial sensor, regression, decision level fusion, treadmill.

Deriving a person's energy expenditure accurately forms the foundation for tracking physical activity levels across many health and lifestyle monitoring tasks. In this study, the authors present a method for estimating calorific expenditure from combined visual and accelerometer sensors by way of an RGB-Depth camera and a wearable inertial sensor. The proposed individual-independent framework f...

A Hierarchical SLAM/GPS/INS Sensor Fusion with WLFP for Flying Robo-SAR's Navigation

In this paper, we present the results of a hierarchical SLAM/GPS/INS/WLFP sensor fusion to be used in navigation system devices. Due to low quality of the inertial sensors, even a short-term GPS failure can lower the integrated navigation performance significantly. In addition, in GPS denied environments, most navigation systems need a separate assisting resource, in order to increase the avail...

A New Approach to Self-Localization for Mobile Robots Using Sensor Data Fusion

This paper proposes a new approach for calibration of dead reckoning process. Using the well-known UMBmark (University of Michigan Benchmark) is not sufficient for a desirable calibration of dead reckoning. Besides, existing calibration methods usually require explicit measurement of actual motion of the robot. Some recent methods use the smart encoder trailer or long range finder sensors such ...
